productive discomfort

Discomfort which results in learning and growth. Productive discomfort can be experienced by individuals, teams, and organizations, though it is usually avoided because it is emotionally unpleasant. The ability to engage in productively uncomfortable activity can be trained through forcing functions and routines that give rise to habits, such as desperation by design and ambient uncertainty. Productive discomfort is an important element of the uncertainty mindset.
